Head of Operations – Warehouse

£50,000 to £55,000 plus car allowance and benefits

One down, one to go!  Having just filled one of these roles we are continuing our work with an established, market-leading, FMCG distribution business based in Birmingham to help them source another Head of Warehouse Operations.  If you’re looking for your next career move to be to a business that can offer genuine progression and development, and that take the safety and well being of their staff seriously, then this could be exactly what you are looking for.

In this role you will take joint responsibility for the inbound, putaway, returns, pick, pack and dispatch processes within the organisation’s National Distribution Centre.  This is a semi-automated facility incorporating voice pick, conveyors and automated packaging technology, housing a significant SKU mix and fulfilling thousands of orders each and every day to both businesses and consumers, and it will be your job to ensure it all runs smoothly, delivering on all KPIs/SLAs.  As always, you will be expected to maintain the health & safety of your staff at all times, as well as working with the leadership team to develop employee capability and site efficiency.

This role will cover all operational NDC hours, therefore you must be comfortable working a rotating 6-2, 2-10, Monday to Friday shift pattern, with occasional weekends.

To be successful in this role it’s expected that you will be able to demonstrate the majority of the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience of holding full responsibility for both inbound, outbound and return operations within a fast-moving, high SKU mix distribution centre, preferably working with FMCG products and 3rd party carriers
  • Ideally, you will have worked in a semi-automated/automated environment and understand how mechanisation is incorporated into fulfilment activity
  • Previous experience of leading and developing, through first and second-line reporting managers, a significant sized team
  • Experience of both B2B and B2C fulfilment operations
  • NEBOSH or similar Health & Safety qualification or willingness to train if not formally qualified
  • Excellent leadership, communication and motivational skills, with the drive and energy to make things happen
  • Previous project and change management experience highly desirable
