Distribution Manager – Nights

Lychnobite – (noun) – someone who works at night and sleeps during the day. In nearly 14 years of recruiting into the Logistics sector I never knew there was a specific word to describe those who work perm nights, but there it is right there, a Lychnobite! If you happen to be a Lychnobite, and have a background in leading fast-moving, predominantly palletised, distribution operations and would like to join a true market leader then read on as this should be right up your street!

The newly created role of Night Manager reports directly to the Head of Operations and takes full responsibility for 150 staff and all aspects of the night operation. You’ll be expected to work under your own initiative and take the lead on all aspects of operational improvement, including the development of your direct reports and wider team from a capability perspective, being pro-active in identifying and implementing operational and strategic improvements including planning, working closely with the wider business (including IT) to improve the accuracy of KPI data and ultimately ensuring a best in class operation to enable this business to continue to operate as the market leader.

So what will you need to bring to the table in order to be considered for this opportunity?

Willing and able to work full-time nights – you will have the autonomy to flex your hours with the needs of the business but they will be between the hours of 19:00 and 07:00
A proven background in leading fast-moving logistics warehousing operations – previous experience of running a highly palletised operation would be highly advantageous
Solid experience of managing large teams (ideally 100+) through first and second line reports, as well as managing upward in terms of expectations from Directors
Previous experience of working in a collaborative role, building strong relationships with all areas of a business, including IT, to allow pro-active development of solutions and continuous improvement processes
Pro-active nature – will go and ask for specific training or development if felt its needed and take accountability for searching out answers to problems

Base salary of £55-60k
