This role is a key hire in what is a relatively small in-house IT team. There are long term career development and progression opportunities as the business continues to grow, however to begin with you will be happy taking on the role of Applications Support Analyst. This business has developed its own, bespoke in-house system that is used across multiple sites, both internally and by their customers, and the vast majority (90%+) of the queries that come in relate to this system and the associated hardware (things like printers, label printers, handheld scanners), so you need to be the kind of person who enjoys learning the ins and outs of a system and becoming a true expert in it. There will be other 1st and 2nd line support activities from time to time, such as sorting some network, server and other infrastructure related queries (Active Directory, Exchange 365, phone systems, routers etc) but this will make up a very small percentage of your day to day activity, so if that’s more your bag then this won’t be for you (better to know that now right?).
You’ll need to be happy and able to work an 8 hour weekly rotating shift pattern of 06:00-14:00 and 13:00-21:00 (just think of the lie-ins you’ll get on the late shift and how quiet the traffic will be on both shifts!) and happy to carry the out of hours phone at times (it rang about twice in the last year apparently so no biggie!). You’ll also need to be ultra-positive, an awesome communicator, and able to build great relationships with both on-site and remote customers, helping them to quickly and efficiently solve their application issues.
