Senior Warehouse Operations Manager

What will you be doing?

There are two jobs currently available, both leading large teams of 150-200 staff via first and second line management (giving you around 5 direct reports), one focussing on the inbound side (Mon to Fri, 06:00 to 14:00 with 1 weekend a month) of this fast moving retail/e-com distribution business and the other on the outbound (Mon to Fri 14:00 to 22:00 with 1 weekend a month).  The inbound role will oversee the goods in and put away process, ensuring that all inbound deliveries and returns are effectively and efficiently processed and stock fed to the correct locations to ensure availability to fulfil customer orders.  The outbound role will oversee a high volume pick, pack and dispatch operation, servicing both B2B store replenishment and B2C direct to consumer orders.  The warehouse is a semi-automated site, utilising the likes of conveyor systems, and voice pick technology.  You’ll be managing the day to day delivery of your operation as well as working strategically to improve and refine.  You’ll lead change projects and oversee the ongoing professional development of your staff, ensuring a robust succession plan is in place.

You’ll be joining a market leading privately owned distributor going through a period of significant growth and change, presenting you with plenty of opportunity to make suggestions and changes to current process and ways of working.  They service both businesses and consumers and provide a huge range of products, many of which are available for next day delivery.  You’ll be joining a business that can offer genuine progression and invests in formal training for it’s staff to aid their growth and development.  They have a real family feel about them and strongly believe in everyone getting stuck in when the going gets tough.

What do you need to bring to the party?

To be successful in these roles it’s expected that you’ll be able to bring the majority of the following skills and experience:

  • A proven background in leading large teams in a large, fast moving warehouse environment, ideally FMCG and ideally incorporating both B2B and B2C operations
  • Relevant experience of in-bound and/or out-bound warehouse operations depending on which role you are interested in
  • Hands on manager with the ability to also work, and think, strategically
  • Natural leaderships skills, able to engage and motivate a team to deliver against set KPI’s and SLAs
  • Strong project management skills, experience of identifying opportunities for improvement and leading the implementation of those changes
  • Great communicator – able to build and influence relationships at all levels of a business and across departments
