Who will you be working for?

This particular business is a growing organisation that benefits from substantial backing from a privately owned European market leader.  An established trade retailer, they turnover circa £25m and operate out of 19 branches UK wide.  They have ambitious growth targets that includes doubling turnover in the next 5 years both through organic growth and acquisition.  They are very much in a period of transformation, including significant investment in their logistics operations (including building a brand new, 45k sqft national distribution center) and systems, which offers the chance for you to make significant change and deliver substantial improvements in current logistics operations.

What will you be doing?

You’ll take responsibility for all logistics activity across the UK business, including the newly created NDC and all branches.  Initially this will include a full audit of all branch activity surrounding logistics operations, such as goods in, stock/inventory management, pick/pack/dispatch operations, route planning, fleet management, before creating and implementing a strategy to improve efficiencies and drive profitability.  This will include a full review of existing trunking and final mile delivery operations for an in-house fleet of circa 75 LCVs.  Once you have tackled the transport side of this role your focus will transition to assisting with the configuration of the new NDC, which you will then manage when it’s all up and running – this facility will deliver both branch replenishment as well as fulfilling e-commerce orders.

What do you need to bring to the table?

To be successful in this role it’s expected that you’ll be able to demonstrate the majority of the following skills/experience:

  • A strong background in leading hub + spoke and file mile logistics operations, covering both transport and warehouse, either within a 3PL or in-house operation (ideally trade retail)
  • Previous experience of undertaking gap analysis, devising process flows and implementing process/procedure documentation
  • Highly analytical mind set
  • Experience of process improvement/transformation is highly desirable
  • Warehouse start-up / configuration experience is hugely advantageous
  • Good knowledge of WMS and their integration with existing systems
  • Excellence communicator, someone who builds rapport easily and is able to influence and drive change
