What will you be doing?

You be taking responsibility for a spend covering steel fabrications with suppliers based both here in the UK and overseas.  You’ll be placing purchase orders, making sourcing decision and securing competitive terms, as well as managing your inventory and ensuring orders are efficiently expedited to get the right components/materials in the right place at the right time.  You’ll take responsibility for your suppliers and undertake regular supplier performance reviews to ensure they are meeting their contracted SLA/KPIs and addressing any areas of under performance and working with them to look at ways of continually improving.  

Who will you be doing it for?

You’ll be joining a highly successful, established global market leader, still privately owned and working in a sector that is effectively recession proof.  Their products will simply always be needed.  You’ll be working out of sleek, modern offices in a business that has a really welcoming, friendly culture, which is evidenced by the number of long serving (10 year +) employees they have.  They undertake a lot of CSR work, running regular charity events and food bank boxes.  They are also a sociable bunch, with on-site Yoga classes, running clubs and a whole host of other great things to emphasise the family feel.

What do you need to bring to the party?

To be successful in this role it’s expected that you’ll be able to evidence the majority of the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in a procurement/purchasing role – if this happens to be manufacturing/engineering then that would be a bonus but isn’t considered essential
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • You’ll be an effective communicator and able to build strong relationships both internally and externally
  • A high attention to detail is required, as are strong planning and organisational skills
  • You’ll be comfortable working to deadlines and committed to delivering great results
  • CIPS qualified or equivalent would be advantageous but again isn’t essential, experience counts for a lot too!
