A CV, even in this day and age, is a powerful tool to demonstrate your suitability for a job, however, it can also kill your chances of landing an interview in seconds!
Things like spelling mistakes, inconsistent formatting and using horrendous fonts are all regular offences, but one of the biggest mistakes we still see on CV’s are when they are purely “responsibility” led, rather than “achievement” focused (which mostly comes from cutting & pasting your job spec into your CV ?)
The below article is written by Laszlo Bock, the former SVP of People Operations at Google, and is still something we refer candidates to for inspiration and advice on how to structure achievements on their CV.
There are plenty of different opinions on what a great CV should look like, and things like layout & style come down to personal preference, however your CV should give the reader an insight into not only what you were responsible for, but how successful you were at delivering it, and that can only really be demonstrated through achievements.
